Champagne corks are popping at Bohemia Restaurant today as Steve Smith and the entire team celebrate today’s news that Bohemia has retained its Michelin star for the ninth consecutive year, just seven months after launching Steve Smith @ Bohemia.

Chef Steve Smith says: ‘To learn that we have been awarded a Michelin star after only arriving at Bohemia in February is an outstanding achievement. I am extremely proud of everything my team and I have accomplished so far, and this award reinforces our determination to continue raising the bar of gastronomic excellence in Jersey.'

'I believe we are seeing a renewed appetite for innovative and imaginative dining experiences' continues Steve Smith. ‘Jersey is well placed to deliver fine dining of an exceptionally high standard thanks to its amazing produce, fish and seafood. The success of Bohemia's many new tasting menus, including the seven-course vegetarian and pescatarian menus reflect this increasing awareness of excellence in gourmet cuisine.'

Bohemia's success in the 2014 Michelin Guide marks the ninth consecutive year the restaurant has held the much-coveted accolade, awarded annually to only a small number of the UK's leading restaurants. 'We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this prestigious accolade for a ninth year' comments Lawrence Huggler, owner of Bohemia Restaurant and The Club Hotel & Spa. 'It speaks volumes about the dedication, passion and expertise of Steve Smith that Bohemia has retained its Michelin star for yet another year and confirms our commitment to raising the standards of gastronomy in Jersey.'

Recently reviewed by leading food critic Andy Hayler, who gave the restaurant 16 out of 20 for what he described as an 'excellent meal', Steve Smith @ Bohemia has been attracting the attention of food experts and tastemakers across the UK, with reviews in Cosmopolitan, Stylenest and The Arbutarian. The Good Food Guide 2014 awarded Bohemia Restaurant the highest score of any Channel Islands restaurant, citing its 'fine-tuned contemporary cooking' and 'top drawer food with a real sense of generosity and value'.

Michelin stars are rather like the Oscars of the food world, with stars only being awarded to restaurants after extensive inspections to ensure standards are consistently high. Michelin inspectors always visit the establishment anonymously, and the inspector's decision cannot be influenced in any way, ensuring that a Michelin star award is always unbiased and recognised worldwide as a highly esteemed standard of culinary excellence.
