Due to the success of Move More Jersey’s 12-week Summer Play programme, which took place outdoors at local community settings around the island, Toddler Play is back!

The free Toddler Play sessions, aimed at walking toddlers to children aged 5 years old, are taking place indoors at various community venues across the island each morning from 09:30-12:30, until 29 April 2022. The sessions are designed to provide fun, active play opportunities for young children with their carers or parents, which encourage the benefits of moving more through play, and they create a positive learning environment for all participants.

Deputy Hugh Raymond, Assistant Minister with responsibility for sport, said,

“The popularity of the Toddler Play initiative shows how important it is to get children involved in playing games at an early age and to show them how enjoyable it is to take part in physical and group activities, compared to just playing on computer devices. The Government is delighted to provide funding for free activities that will get our children out in the fresh air and playing actively together.”

Our team of experienced Move More Playworkers are on hand during each session to lead and demonstrate the children’s soft play and indoor activities, whilst engaging in discussions with parents over future play provision and the importance of active play at a developmental age.

Elliot Powell, Children and Schools Manager at Jersey Sport said, “We’re delighted to bring our popular Toddler Play sessions back this year and we’re looking to introduce themed sessions, associated to the Early Years Foundation stage curriculum, to focus upon development of fundamental movement skills in young children. Active play is such an important part of a child’s development, and we know that, in Jersey, 81% of children and young people do not meet the World Health Organisation’s recommended guidelines for physical activity. Thanks to funding received from the Government of Jersey, we can offer these play sessions for free, which makes them accessible to so many more of the island’s children, and really helps to make a difference.”

Move More Jersey will continue to offer the free morning play dates, Monday to Friday each week, from 09:30-12:30, until 29 April 2022. All Toddler Play sessions strictly adhere to COVID-19 guidelines.
