Volunteers from BCR Law LLP took part in a CSR day for Jersey Trees For Life (JTFL), as part of its partnership with the charity to support the local environment and tackle the climate crisis.
Members of staff from BCR Law worked together alongside Lee Tucker and Mike Vacher from JTFL to maintain a zone at Val de la Mare reservoir. Tasks included removing ivy from trees to help them grow, weeding and also clearing the pathways on walking routes for the general public to enjoy.
JTFL is the only local charity entirely dedicated to protecting the island’s trees and woodlands, which the charity believes is one of the best ways to tackle the climate crisis. Its work includes tree planting, woodland restoration and maintenance to ensure the planted trees survive.
Managing Partner David Benest commented: “At BCR Law, we aim to protect the environment around us and therefore, we wanted to align ourselves with a charity which is dedicated to doing just that. JTFL is a charity of paramount importance doing vital work for the environment in a bid to tackle the serious issues of climate change. I’m proud of our team of volunteers who dedicated their time and hard work to JTFL to make a difference at Val de la Mare to benefit the environment and also the local community.”
Philip Taylor, Chair of Jersey Trees For Life said: “We are extremely grateful to BCR Law for its corporate sponsorship this year where every pound donated goes towards either plantation or maintenance and overall charity running costs. But it means a lot to have volunteers actively support and take part in our charity’s work. We are so thankful to the team at BCR Law who took time out of their working day to help maintain an area at Val de la Mare. Maintenance is extremely important to ensure the survival of the trees after plantation as only a small percentage of trees survive without regular care, therefore planting is not enough. This work will go a long way in working towards our charity’s long term goals.”
