The NSPCC’s biennial Jersey Ball has raised a record-breaking amount for the leading children’s charity.

The fundraising ball, which was compered by Homes under the Hammer presenter Martin Roberts, raised more than £175,000 at Trinity Manor on Saturday night (30 June).

Speaking after the event celebrity auctioneer Martin said he was “proud” of the fundraising efforts of everyone involved and thanked them for generously supporting the vital work of the charity. Money raised from the ball will support the NSPCC in Jersey.

Services provided at the charity’s Gower Centre on Stopford Road, St Helier, include the ‘Letting the Future In’ programme, which helps children and young people who have been the victims of sexual abuse, and Baby Steps, which provides perinatal support for parents struggling to cope with the pressures of a new baby.

Funds raised by the ball will also support NSPCC Jersey’s recently launched PANTS campaign, run in partnership with the States of Jersey, which teaches children about what sexual abuse is and how to report it.

Through the animated dinosaur Pantosaurus, children are taught the PANTS rule of Privates are private, Always remember your body belongs to you, No means no, Talk about secrets that upset you and Speak up – someone can help.

A new dedicated NSPCC helpline for Jersey residents, offering support and the ability to report any concerns of abuse or neglect, has also recently been set up by the children’s charity.

Laura Macdonald, part of the Jersey fundraising committee and lead organiser of the ‘Emerald Isle’-themed ball, said: “The NSPCC biennial ball is one of the highlights of our fundraising programme.

“We would like to thank Paul and Pam Bell OBE for both hosting the ball once again in the grounds of their beautiful home, Trinity Manor, and for their long-term steadfast support of the NSPCC in Jersey. A special thanks to Dandara, who have been the main sponsors of the ball for ten years and shown their firm commitment to the charity.

“In addition, the support of many other Jersey companies and individuals who provide sponsorship and donate auction and raffle prizes is invaluable and we are very appreciative of this.

“Our fundraising committee of volunteers works extremely hard to ensure that our guests have an unforgettable evening, with each ball having a different and very unique theme and an unrivalled attention to detail.

“Our celebrity auctioneer and Master of Ceremonies, Martin Roberts from Homes under the Hammer, gave his time freely to our event and brought with him boundless energy and enthusiasm, which combined with his experience and charm, ensured that our auction exceeded our targets.

“However, without our guests, there would be no ball and we are extremely grateful for their generosity and support. They show that Every Childhood is Worth Fighting For.”
