NSPCC Jersey is gearing up for a week of activity as it looks to raise money to help fund the services it offers from its Gower Centre, supporting children and families across the island.

During its annual Flag Week, which starts on Monday 7 October, volunteers will be out on the streets of St Helier, sporting NSPCC green, and hosting activities including a cake sale, live music, and the ever-popular Jersey Big Dog Club walk through the town centre.

Last year, Flag Week raised over £2,000 for the children’s charity, with over £650 being raised by the fundraising dog walk.

Fundraising Chair for NSPCC Jersey Nicola Santos-Costa said: “We will be holding our Flag Week in St Helier come rain or shine, so please look out for us in our bright green tee shirts.

“It is in all our interests that Jersey children have a childhood where they are safe, respected and valued.

“I am extremely grateful for everyone who is giving up their time to support Flag Week, including the brilliant Big Dogs Club who will parade through King Street on Wednesday morning.

“We also have the wonderful Brass Souls who will be playing live Jazz music on Saturday afternoon and a band of fantastic bakers who are supporting our cake sale.”

The cake sale will be situated in the market in St Helier between 10am-2pm on Saturday 12 October.

Fundraising enables the NSPCC to provide vital services to families living in Jersey, including Letting the Future In, which is a therapeutic service for children who have experienced sexual abuse, and Pregnancy in Mind that supports expectant parents who may be experiencing, or at risk of, anxiety or depression.

The NSPCC’s Schools Service also delivers Speak out Stay safe in the island’s primary schools, which is a free service that teaches children about abuse in an age-appropriate way and helps them learn how to identify a trusted adult.

The service educates children about Childline, which is a free helpline for children to call at any time of the day or night, 365 days a year, on 0800 1111 or childline.org.uk.
