Deloitte Jersey has donated a variety of numeracy cards to Every Child Our Future (ECOF) through its partnership to support its Numeracy Skills Programme.
The Deloitte cards were developed to play games with the children with the aim to improve their numeracy skills. They are designed with due care, in order to engage children in their own, personalised learning and inspire out of the box thinking with imaginative play.
Over the past two years, Deloitte has trained 35 volunteers and spent a total of 500 hours actively supporting ECOF with weekly numeracy skills sessions.
Deloitte Jersey has been partnered with ECOF for more than two years as part of its 5 Million Futures (5MF) social impact strategy. Through 5 Million Futures, Deloitte North South Europe aim to help five million people get to where they want to be through access to education and employment. Deloitte Jersey’s sponsorship has been significant in ensuring the successful implementation of ECOF’s pilot Numeracy Skills Programme across 20 primary schools in Jersey.
Senior Manager in Audit and Assurance at Deloitte, Shaikh Mubashir said, ‘We are thrilled to support ECOF with the introduction of our branded numeracy cards. We hope they are incredibly beneficial to the children’s learning and development. Being able to see the children’s progression over time makes everything we do as volunteers worthwhile.’
ECOF Programme Manager, Lucy Le Poidevin added: ‘Deloitte’s support has been crucial to help with the Numeracy Skills Programme. The donation of these cards alongside their continued volunteer support will make a true difference to the children of Jersey.
‘Deloitte has supported the Numeracy Skills Programme since the very beginning, and we greatly appreciate their continued commitment throughout the pandemic.’
Numeracy support volunteers work in schools for an hour a week and spend 20 minutes one-to-one with three children. During that time, the volunteers play maths games with children in Reception and Year 1 to strengthen their number bond knowledge and reasoning skills.
In partnership with the CYPES, ECOF co-ordinates more than 500 individuals and corporate volunteers to help improve learning skills and develop futures, supporting local primary-school children to improve their reading and numeracy skills.
