To celebrate the 10th year of RBC Blue Water Project, over 45 employees volunteered their time to help with the annual upkeep of the orangutan enclosure at Jersey Zoo.

RBC staff removed overgrown vegetation in the Zoo’s award-winning arboreal orangutan habitat. This activity is part of the company’s on-going support of Jersey Zoo.

In 2014, the zoo received an RBC Blue Water Project grant of over £40,000 to help improve water efficiency of its wildlife park, including the implementation of rainwater guttering to divert rainwater to the moat surrounding the orangutan enclosure.

Nicola Carroll, Senior Manager, Corporate Citizenship at RBC Wealth Management said: ‘Over the last decade, the RBC Blue Water Project has donated more than £500,000 to eight organisations in the British Isles, including Jersey Zoo. It’s therefore very fitting that in the 10th year of the programme, a team of RBC employees returned to the Zoo to help clear this area. Although it involved some hard labour, the team found the afternoon very rewarding!’

Jersey Zoo’s Theresa Crehan-Ferey added: ‘The orangutan enclosure is not only home to the orangutans and gibbons, but also to native amphibians, invertebrates, and fish. It is therefore important that the vegetation around the moat is maintained to ensure a clearer environment for the animals. We are therefore very grateful to the large team of RBC staff who contributed their time to Jersey Zoo.’
