On Saturday 11 June 2022, the nineth Vistra Jersey Kids’ Triathlon took place at Les Quennevais Sports and Leisure Centre in aid of Blood Cancer UK, Jersey Branch.
The event saw over six hundred children, aged 6-13, swim, bike, and run their way to the finish line. The crowds of proud parents and supporters watched as kids crossed the finish line with huge smiles across their faces, many of whom were experiencing the triathlon buzz for the first time.
Chris Rowland, the Chairman of Blood Cancer UK – Jersey Branch commented “What a glorious day with whole families coming along to support their children in what is the biggest children’s sporting event in the Channel Islands. No winners, no losers, just achievers. This annual event cannot be held without the help and organisation of 3D Events and David Holmes who has supported our idea for a non-competitive Kids Triathlon and indeed arranged the course for the children for the last nine years. Our wonderful sponsors Vistra have been so generous both with the finance they support us with and the time their staff give to help us keep the event running smoothly. Our sincere thanks to them all.”
To cap off a hugely successful event, there was an outstanding fundraising effort from all children, with the event raising its highest amount to date. The organisers are ecstatic that this years’ event has raised in the region of £16,000 for Blood Cancer UK – Jersey Branch, a charity which funds the research into all blood cancers and treatment and are making huge progress with cell replacement and gene technology. The event wants to recognise our top fundraiser, Beau Le Main, who raised an incredible £2,500. Chris Rowland, the Chairman of Blood Cancer UK – Jersey Branch said “We are extremely fortunate to have such a team to help us raise funds for the vital research into all Blood Cancers of which there are many forms. The research is fast moving now, and many new treatments are being fast-tracked to help patients as soon as possible and in a far less intrusive way. All the money raised by the children will be used in this way and we thank them all for their continued support.”
Clive Wright, the Managing Director of Vistra Channel Islands commented “We were delighted to sponsor the Vistra Kids Triathlon for the sixth year now and we look forward to supporting this wonderful event again in 2023. It was fantastic to see a record number of over 600 children take part to raise money and awareness for the Jersey branch of Blood Cancer UK.”
Organisers would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to everyone who made this event possible. Thanks to Vistra and Blood Cancer UK – Jersey Branch for all your support; the wonderful volunteers and marshals who helped make the day an organised, safe, and enjoyable event; to Les Quennevais Sports Centre for their facilities and co-operation; and to all the parents/guardians who made the day possible. The children were kindly supported by local sporting clubs; Jersey Swimming Club, Jersey Cycling Association Youth Academy, Jersey Park Run and the Aztec Jersey Tristars to guide and protect them through the three disciplines; swim, bike and run.
The 2023 event is set to take place on Saturday 10 June 2023 at Les Quennevais Sports Centre where organisers hope to welcome even more children to the event to celebrate the 10th anniversary.
