The Friends of Saumarez Park Playground LBG was set up in July 2012 to raise funds for the redevelopment of the children’s play area at Saumarez Park. So far, the charity has raised £170,000, which is enough to meet the cost of the first phase of the planned development – a giant pirate ship and ancillary items - all meeting the requirements of ‘inclusive play’.

The Friends of Saumarez Park Playground are continuing with their fund raising, with the aim of raising a further two similar sums for the toddler area and older children’s section. The total amount required for the entire project to be completed is approximately £500,000.

Sarah Winsall from the Friends of Saumarez Park Playground said that they were extremely grateful to receive a donation from GIIA and that it is important that Guernsey’s Associations (such as GIIA) recognise the part the playground plays in the life of the Island.

Once the refurbishment is complete, Saumarez Park playground will continue to be enjoyed by local children and will be a focal point of the community for many years to come.
