Last week five nurses from the General Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit enjoyed an elegant afternoon tea in the sunshine, courtesy of St Helier’s five star Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa.

Grand Jersey have been supporting local Charity Friends of SCBU for a number of years and along with raising funds for this very worthy local cause, the team at the hotel are constantly looking for ways in which they can provide treats and special experiences to the families who use the unit and also of course to the hard working nurses who provide round the clock support to the babies in their care.

Commenting on the idea of offering afternoon tea to the nurses Martin Kelly, General Manager of Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa said, “We are delighted to be able to invite the SCBU nurses to enjoy a relaxing afternoon at Grand Jersey and to enjoy some delicious afternoon tea treats prepared especially by our Executive Head Chef Nicolas Valmagna. We appreciate how incredibly hard they work, providing the very best medical care to their young patients.”

Grand Jersey will be hosting three parties of nurses from the Special Care Baby Unit over the coming months, each enjoying a sumptuous afternoon tea consisting of dainty sandwiches, exquisitely prepared pastries, homemade fruit scones with strawberry jam and Jersey clotted cream, as and when their shifts allow.

Gemma Harries, Secretary and Fundraising Coordinator of Friends of SCBU said, “We are so grateful to Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa for their continued support and we can't think of a nicer way to treat the wonderful staff at the Special Care Baby Unit for all their hard work!
