A brand spanking new youth performing arts group will be debuting some home grown Jersey talent at The Jersey Arts Centre on Saturday 5th October with their cabaret style show ‘SCHOOL DAZE’.

Sponsored by Ogier, Jersey Youth Performing Arts (‘JYPA’), is a new charity for young people in Jersey between the ages of 9 and 18 wanting to provide access to the performing arts to all students regardless of where they live or which school they attend.  The show features music, poems and sketches loosely based on the theme of school. Including songs from the musicals: Matilda, Bohemian Rhapsody and Our House plus a little desk percussion and some very exciting synchronised swimming!

Show Director, Rhona Richards explains: “Our aim is to encourage inclusivity in the performing arts and to promote it’s educational benefits. Thanks to our sponsors Ogiers, JYPA is able to offer free monthly workshops and the opportunity to perform around two shows a year. SCHOOL DAZE is our first JYPA show and we’ve had so much fun in rehearsals.”

Ten year old Dexter Kelly agrees and says: “not many boys at my school like acting and things. Being in SCHOOL DAZE means I get to meet other kids who like the same stuff as me.”

Rhona continues: “One of the aims of the JYPA is to create a safe inclusive environment which allows young performers from all walks of life the opportunity to mix with each other and make new friends. We hope you want to come along to the Arts Centre in October to see for yourself how much fun we’ve had as it really reflects in our show!”
