Appleby’s Jersey office has retained its ranking status for Corporate & Finance, Investment Funds, Dispute Resolution and Property work in the latest edition of the leading law firm guide Chambers and Partners.

The 2017 edition of the respected Chambers UK Guide highlights seven Appleby lawyers as ‘Notable Practitioners’ in these key business areas.

The annual Guide is compiled by a team of editors who conduct extensive research among legal practitioners and clients. Chambers has been ranking lawyers and legal firms since 1990, now covering 185 jurisdictions, and is widely regarded as one of the leading guides.

Jersey office Managing Partner Michael Cushing said: “Our focus remains on providing excellent client service in each area of our practice. Recognition in Chambers of our teams and of individual lawyers demonstrates very clearly that we are continuing to deliver the high quality and efficient legal services that our clients require.”

He added “It is very pleasing to see Chambers has included seven members of the Appleby Jersey team as ‘Notable Practitioners’ and has also commended David Dorgan who heads up the team’s Private Client & Trusts group.”

Appleby’s Corporate & Finance department in Jersey was noted by Chambers as a firm that is ‘regularly called upon by public and private companies and financial institutions to advise on a wide range of transactions.’

Comments from clients and peers describe the team as a “A real deal team. They understand commercial points of view and offer practical advice.” Further comments include; “They did a phenomenal job. They worked around the clock where necessary, and provided accurate and precise information and advice. We really enjoyed working with them, it was a very cohesive team and a very well run file.”

Notable Practitioners include Partner and Jersey Group Head of Corporate, Wendy Benjamin who was commended for her strength on banking regulatory work. Interviewees highlight her “ability to explain the detailed and complex in a way that is very comprehensible to those not involved in the corporate world.”

Corporate partner, Andrew Weaver is praised by respondents for his “comprehensive tax and financing knowledge,” alongside his ability to deliver “practical solutions” for clients. Andrew also, impresses clients with his ability to “find a practical way forward.”

The Jersey Dispute Resolution team was highlighted with clients describing the team as “Imaginative and responsive in addressing the issues involved, and certainly quick to look to my interests to make sure they were protected.”

Partner and Jersey Group Head of Dispute Resolution Fraser Robertson, attracts acclaim for his “unflappable style” and “intuitive understanding of the role of the advocate in court.” Whilst Jersey Office Managing Partner, Michael Cushing, is described as “pragmatic and technically strong”.

Appleby’s highly respected Property practice in Jersey is noted Demonstrating considerable expertise in a full range of commercial property work, including development and financing.

Global Group Head of Property Tim Hart is noted as leading “a capable and efficient team.” Personally, Tim is highlighted for his standout reputation and maintains a wide-ranging practice that incorporates leasing, M&A and financing matters. Consultant John Bisson is described as “efficient, prompt and concise” by clients.

Partner and Jersey Group Head of Private Client & Trusts, David Dorgan, was commended by the Guide as ‘Up and Coming’, sources say; “He’s very easy to talk to, he understands what you want and is very accurate and quick in turning things around.” He works on private and commercial trust matters, and regularly assists with the establishment and management of trust structures.
