The Shah family of Minerva has strong and long established links with the region.
The Minerva business was founded in 1922, and the Chairman of Minerva and his brother were both born in Nairobi.
The Shah family founded the MP Shah hospital, which is the closest hospital to the scene of the attack, in the 1960s. Doctors, staff and volunteers at the MP Shah Hospital have been working non-stop treating the injured and trying to save lives since the attack began. Well over 100 casualties have been successfully treated so far. Many of the injured have been operated upon to remove bullets and grenade shrapnel, while others remain in a critical condition in the ICU. More than 100 pints of blood have been collected, thanks to the overwhelming support of the public.
The Shah family and Minerva will be supporting the relief efforts in any way they possibly can. They have a number of staff on the ground in Kenya, one of whom is currently assisting the Shah community centre providing refreshments and support to the Kenyan military and police on the ground.
The Shah family has donated £10,000 to the MP Shah Hospital disaster relief fund and would also like to set up a Disaster Emergency Fund for the MP Shah Hospital in Jersey. They would therefore appreciate any assistance and support to help raise awareness of this fund.

"My family has very strong links to Kenya going back to my grandfather and my father, who was born in Nairobi. We have supported Kenya in various ways over the years, including charitable donations, so it was a natural step for us to set up a fund to which we have pledged £10,000.
People from Jersey who have visited Kenya for business or pleasure would have enjoyed the hospitality of the Kenyans, the wildlife and many other facets Kenya has to offer. This fund will give them an opportunity to show their support and solidarity with the people of Kenya in their time of need."
