Standard Bank Jersey last night hosted an evening with renowned British explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes. Sir Ranulph entertained the audience with stories from his many record-breaking expeditions, which include being the first person to achieve a circumpolar navigation of the world and the oldest Briton to reach the top of Everest – at the age of 65.
During the event, Sir Ranulph gave an insight into the huge amount of work that goes into getting these expeditions off the ground, the harrowing conditions the explorers are exposed to, as well as the real sense of achievement that comes from having raised over £19 million for charity over the years.
Sir Ranulph said: “It is a pleasure to be asked to visit Jersey and to tell people about my experiences. One of the greatest challenges you face as an expedition leader is finding the support and resource to get the project going, so having a platform like this to remind people of what we do is invaluable for my team.”
“It is a particular privilege to be hosted by Standard Bank Jersey. Africa, particularly South Africa, is a home from home for me. I moved to Cape Town when I was one and lived there until I was 12 and I still have a lot of family there. Standard Bank’s home is also Africa and its commitment to drive her growth is something that I believe is thoroughly worthwhile.”
The event, held at La Moye Golf Club, was hosted by Standard Bank Jersey, Head of International Portfolio Management Chris Stead: “We are absolutely thrilled to have Sir Ranulph speak at our event. He is not only one of the world’s greatest living explorers, but also a fantastic storyteller. We hope that our audience tonight feel inspired by his unbelievable achievements and his obvious resilience and determination to succeed at what most people would think impossible.”
