This month signals the 10th anniversary of Sure’s arrival in Jersey and as such, marks a decade of competition in the telecoms market.
Since it was first issued a license in Jersey ten years ago, Sure has come a long way and is now the leading competitor in business and mobile communications with approximately 30% of the mobile market and a significant share of the market for corporate communications.
Sure first entered the Jersey market under the branding of its then owner, Cable & Wireless. Today, Sure is owned by the global Batelco Group and employs over 30 people in Jersey, has a store on King St and has invested over £25 million in its mobile network and the installation of a fibre network for businesses in St Helier, La Rue des Près and les Quennevais.
“It’s incredible to think that we have been operating in Jersey for a decade,” said Graham Hughes, CEO of Sure Jersey and one of the company’s first employees in the Island. “In that time we have shown that we can offer the full range of communications services to both individuals and businesses at prices that provide real value and with the support of a well-skilled and very knowledgeable staff.
“Sure’s arrival in Jersey marked the advent of real competition in the Island’s telecoms industry and whilst we are extremely proud of our achievements, there is still much more to be done. We have to overcome the final hurdle to a fully competitive market place by working with the regulator to introduce Wholesale Line Rental as quickly as possible.
“This will mean that finally the Island has a competitive landline market. Once this is in place, Sure will then be able to provide competition in all areas of telecommunications and Islanders will be able to save money whilst also benefitting from innovation that will deliver new and exciting services.”
