Ice Skate Jersey (ISJ) will operate a Christmas ice rink in Jersey for the seventh successive year in 2016.

Sure has been principal sponsor for the initiative since its inception in 2010 and is bringing Sure Skate back to Fort Regent.

The rink, which consists of real ice 100mm thick and chilled to -5.6˚, is 800m2 in area and includes a dedicated rink for children to use and private lessons to take place.

A professional ice skating instructor will be coming to the island for the duration of the rink being open and one-on-one or group lessons will be available to book.

Sure skate will run from 9 December until 15 January 2017 and will again be open to the public as well as available to hire for corporate events and private parties.

Friday and Saturday nights will see local DJs playing the latest hits to crowds on the ice with an accompanying lightshow.

Keith Halstead of ISJ said: “It’s clear to us that the people of Jersey love to go ice skating at Christmas time so we’re pleased to be bringing the rink back to Fort Regent this year.

“Last year’s attendance, coupled with the fact that we’ve got almost 10,000 likes on our Facebook page, tells us that we’ve got some keen skaters on the island. People of all abilities are encouraged and if you’ve never tried it before you really should – it’s brilliant fun.”

In addition to the public and private sessions there will also be ice hockey played on the rink again this year. Monday and Wednesday evenings will host senior sessions and Sunday mornings present a chance for local youngsters who are proficient skaters to come along and have a go at a new sport.

Sure’s marketing and PR manager, Natalie Lynch, said: “It’s a pleasure to play a part in bringing ice skating to Jersey and we know it’s become part of the festive tradition for many islanders.

“Fort Regent is the ideal venue for the rink and with the Ice Café and Snow Zone play area meaning there’s something to do even when you’re not out on the ice. We really love putting Sure Skate on and are looking forward to December already.”
