A technology expert who relocated his business to the Island through the support of Digital Jersey and The States of Jersey has been making a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged individuals in the local community through his work with the charity Helping Wings.

Director of Blue Flame Digital Solutions and qualified commercial pilot, Phil Taylor, offers his time and specialist piloting skills to allow disabled and disadvantaged individuals of all ages to experience the excitement of flying as a Helping Wings volunteer pilot. As part of the business' corporate social responsibility, a significant donation from its profits will also be made to the charity.

Phil will be volunteering as part of Helping Wings’ Young Peoples Day on 22nd April. The event invites around 30 young people to fly and includes refreshments at Jersey Aero Club and a tour of Jersey Airport’s control tower.

Phil is recognised in the technology industry for his involvement with Joomla!, a free and open-source content management system that powers around 3% of websites across the globe. He also provides digital consultancy under Blue Flame Digital Solutions and is the founder and creator of triple award-winning Joomla service, myJoomla.com.

He commented:

“Understanding what exactly is required and who to talk to when relocating can be overwhelming, so guidance from Digital Jersey was invaluable. The desk space in the Hub has also been ideal, providing a collaborative area to work from within Jersey’s digital community, surrounded by other tech enthusiasts. Having now settled into Island life, I wanted to give back to the community. As flying is one of my passions it seemed like the perfect fit to align my business with Helping Wings. The charity does such brilliant work offering local disabled and disadvantaged people the opportunity to fly, and with Jersey’s idyllic scenery it is a breathtaking experience.”

As part of Blue Flame Digital Solutions’ business plan, Phil has also committed to offering employment opportunities to local people. He is currently looking to recruit on-Island digital developers to support the expansion of his business.

Tony Moretta, CEO of Digital Jersey, commented:

“Phil’s positive work within the community is testament to our collaboration with the Population Office in supporting licences for technology businesses. The relocation of Blue Flame Digital Solutions is already bringing value to Jersey by creating new digital jobs for local people. I encourage developers of all levels to get in touch with him to find out more about these opportunities. Beyond economic value, Phil has become an active and positive figure in our community and is making a real difference to people’s lives. At a time when we are understandably talking about controlling the Jersey population, this provides an example of what introducing the right people to the Island can offer – diversification of the economy, new businesses and jobs, and contributions to Jersey’s society.
