Let the beat fuel your feet…

It wasn’t ideal conditions on Sunday 22nd September, but Music in Action made sure that their family fundraiser, Musical 5K Fun Run would still hit the right notes.

After a successful run last year, it seemed only right to bring back this incredible event, which fundraisers for the amazing work Jersey Charity, Music in Action does to educate and inspire children through music. Whilst runners and the public waited under the clearing skies and headed to The Pink Panda Van for their coffee hit, the fabulous The Band of the Island of Jersey played with gusto and gave everyone the wake-up call needed on a Sunday morning. As 9:30am approached, the runners headed to the start line; some wearing fancy dress, others eager to beat their personal best and with the sound of the air horn – they were off!

With 6 bands placed around the course, the runners were treated to an array of musical genres; The Progressive School of Music choir and the Jersey Samba band, directed by international percussionist Simone Rebello. Local singer-songwriter Sam Walwyn, and The Brian White Quartet were just some of the musicians that truly gave this fun run its flair.

Described by one runner as “A unique musical running experience” there was high praise at the finish line as runners were greeted by the phenomenal ‘The Word on the Street’, headed up by horn player Luke Brown, who gave them that last push over the finish line with a roaring rendition of ‘When the going gets tough’ – very fitting some might say!

As the runners caught their breath and received their medals, race director Emily Andrews awarded prizes, kindly donated by Olympic champion Sally Gunnell, to those who’s fancy dress really lit up the course saying “Without fundraiser’s like this it wouldn’t be possible for us to continue the amazing work we do. Thank you to all involved for their energy, kindness and high spirts”
