The final event of the 2014 De Putron Challenge resulted in each island winning a trophy as the Jersey and Guernsey champions from Years 6 and 8 faced off against each other on Monday 24 November.

The Year 6 final was keenly contested between Guernsey champions St Mary and St Michael and Jersey’s Victoria College, with Victoria winning the title after building an unassailable lead in the mental maths round.

Elizabeth College levelled the inter-island scores in the Year 8 final however, as they defeated visiting Jersey champions Beaulieu Convent in a closely fought contest retaining the trophy once again.

The inter-island finals event at St James Concert Hall in Guernsey capped off a successful 2014 De Putron Challenge series for Victoria, who also won the inter-island post 16 event which was held in Jersey earlier this month.

The Great Minds theme for 2014 proved to be accurate, as closely fought heats in both islands made for very tight contests and ensured that only the greatest of minds progressed to the inter-island finals.

ITV Channel’s Rob Moore, De Putron Challenge quizmaster, said: “The fact that Guernsey and Jersey ended up with a trophy each after today’s finals indicates how level the playing field is between the two islands.

“The standard of all competitors has been extremely high and today’s hard fought inter-island finals were a great way to wrap up the De Putron Challenge for 2014. I’m already looking forward to next year.”
