Victoria College team ‘Let’s get fiscal’ battled against 16 teams from schools across the Island to be crowned champions on Thursday 15 November at the Raddison Blu Waterfront Hotel.

A ‘week’ of trading was squeezed into one morning as the students tested themselves with a portfolio of stocks and currency. Each team member was assigned a different role, such as floor trader or investment analyst, while exchanging shares at the trading pit which was staffed by Ashburton employees.

At the halfway point ‘Elastiboyz’, another Victoria College team, were in the lead with ‘Let’s get fiscal’ nipping at their heels in second. In the second half of the game ‘Let’s get fiscal’ managed to trade their way into first place and secure their victory.

The team’s stellar trading over the ‘week’ ensured that team members Kieran Rabet, Angus Hay, Oscar Le Seelleur, Harry Bannister and Fergus Ludlam triumphed, managing to turn a profit over £1 million on their initial investment of £10,000.

The Stock Market Challenge, hosted by Ashburton Investments, debuted its academic version in 2017 and is aimed at broadening students’ view of opportunities within the financial services and illustrate how financial markets react to global events. Students were invited to quiz Ashburton’s team about their roles and the reality of asset management in Jersey.

The winning team, ‘Let’s get fiscal’ were presented with the trophy by Ashburton Investments’ Marketing Manager (International), Rachelle Le Core
