Traditional festive fun or Wonderland? This week, you can have both thanks to Hamptonne and Jersey Arts Centre.

Each week, Bailiwick Wellbeing will be sharing a selection of sporty and community local events for you to get involved in.

A traditional Christmas

When? Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December - 10:00 to 17:00 

Where? Hamptonne Country Life Museum

What? Experience ‘A Traditional Christmas’ with Jersey Heritage at Hamptonne Country Life Museum. Dating back to the 15th century, the house and farm buildings will be brought to life by larger-than-life characters, traditions and stories that will transport you back in time to Christmases of days gone. The day will include appearances from Ebenezer Scrooge, stirring the Christmas pudding in the 1940s kitchen, tasting gingerbread in the Victorian bakehouse as well as Candle dipping and weaving in Langlois House, a sprout trail for little “sprouts” and mulled wine and mince pies in Hamptonne café.

You’ll even find old St. Nick warming his boots by the fire in Hamptonne House on Saturday between 13:30 and 16:30 and Sunday between 11:00 and 14:00. 

No need to book in advance.  Parking available in the Hamptonne carpark only.

Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass

When? Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 – 15:00 and 19:00, Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 – 11:00, 15:00 and 19:00, Thursday 23 December at 15:00

Where? Jersey Arts Centre

What? Journey down the rabbit hole this December as Jersey Arts Centre presents its seventh Community Christmas Production: Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. It’s guaranteed to be fun for the whole family. Read a review of the production HERE.

Christmas Fair at the Merchant’s House

When? Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December – 10:00 to 17:00

Where? 20 Commercial Buildings

What? Come and celebrate launch of the new Merchant’s House and tour the studio where all Jane James ceramics are made. There will also be a Christmas fair with a number of local artists and craftspeople selling their artwork.

Jersey Bulls v Alton FC

When? Saturday 17 December – 14:00

Where? Springfield Stadium

What? The Bulls will be facing Alton F.C. for their second game of the week. Santa will be visiting the stadium before the game and spectators are invited to donate a gift or toy for Santa to deliver for Christmas.

SCOOP Christmas Market

When? Saturday 17 December – 10:00 to 18:00

Where? SCOOP the Sustainable Cooperative, La Bienvenue Farm, Grande Route de St. Laurent, St. Lawrence.

What? SCOOP is inviting you for “the island’s cosiest Christmas Market” with over 40 local producers, Christmas treats, live music, warm waffles, mulled drinks, hot food and the famous SCOOP Cheese Deli! There will also be craft activities, a potter’s wheel and a charity table for those making for good causes.

Christmas Carol Service

When? Sunday 18 December – 18:00

Where? St. Luke’s Church

What? A traditional service of nine lessons and carols, with well-known Christmas carols to sing, and familiar readings. St. Luke’s Choir will be providing the music, including ‘In the bleak mid-winter’, ‘Silent Night’ and ‘O come all ye faithful’.
