From pantomime humour to wildlife walks and a charity challenge, this weekend's calendar is full of opportunities to chase the January blues away.
Each week, Bailiwick Wellbeing will be sharing a selection of sporty and community local events for you to get involved in.
Here are the top picks...
When? Throughout the month of January
What? Dementia Jersey is challenging everyone to walk or run 50 miles this January to help 1,600 islanders living with dementia. Sponsored by Ravenscroft, the 50 Mile challenge was originally organised by one of Dementia Jersey’s volunteers, Simone Sains, and has since become one of the charity’s most successful fundraising events.
Last year, 570 islanders took part, helping raise a total of £32,000, a target the charity aims to smash this year. To sign up, click here. Sign up fee is £12.50 for adults and £7.50 for children up to 14 years old.
When? From 6 to 15 January – various times
Where? Jersey Arts Centre
What? The Jersey Amateur Dramatic Club is taking to the stage with its 2023 pantomime, Aladdin. Come boo the baddies, cheer the hero and laugh along to traditional Panto jokes and slapstick comedy!
When? Saturday 7 January – 09:45 to 12:00
Where? Noirmont car park (next to the pine trees)
What? Birding Tours Jersey rescheduled their Christmas Eve walk for this Saturday. Take some time out and join them for walk with wildlife stops to look at the winter wildflowers, late insects and the migrant birds which have stopped here to avoid the chill. There's plenty to see at this time of year and the coastal views are magnificent! Contact them to reserve a place.
When? Sunday 8 January – 10:30
Where? Les Blanches Banques SSI, La Carriere car park
What? Join Jersey Conservation Volunteers to cut back blackthorn on the dunes at Les Blanches Banques, an area where sheep grazed for the first time in 2022, to help improve floral diversity. The team will provide some tools but bring loppers or pruning saws if you have them, as well as appropriate clothing and sturdy boots and gloves.
When? Sunday 8 January – 11:00
Where? L’Auberge du Nord Pub and Restaurant – St. John
What? The Jersey MG Owners’ Club will be meeting upstairs at l'Auberge du Nord before a run to Le Braye at midday.
