Wellbeing Calendar #47: A weekend all about kindness

The Kindness Festival is returning this Saturday, but with charity events, a fair and an artisan market also on the calendar, there are plenty of opportunities to be kind to yourself, and to others, this week.

It’s a Knockout

When? Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September – 10:00 to 18:00

Where? Royal Jersey Showground

What? Come watch competitors battle it through obstacles, water and foam to raise money for babies and children in the Jersey Neonatal Unit and Robin Ward at the Jersey General Hospital. There will also be a variety of activities available to visitors, including bouncy castles, an indoor cinema, soft play, face painting, mini tractors, along with food vendors and stalls. Entrance to the site is free and £5 per child will give unlimited access to all children's activities for the day.

Havre des Pas Festival

When? Saturday 9 from 12:00 to 22:00 and Sunday 10 September from 12:00 to 20:00

Where? Havre des Pas Lido

What? Come on down to the historic Havre des Pas Lido for a weekend full of family fun in and by the water. Activities will include arts and crafts, food stalls, rides and of course live music.

Kindness Festival

When? Saturday 9 September – 10:00 to 16:00

Where? St. Aubin

What? 30 charities will fill the Harbourside and Parish Hall on Saturday to celebrate the work of local charities and demonstrate the kindness and caring in the island. Every charity will contribute an activity that makes the day fun for all visitors.

SCOOP Summer Fair

When? Saturday 9 September

Where? SCOOP The Sustainable Cooperative, La Bienvenue Farm, Grande Route de St Laurent

What? Enjoy a day of good food, live music, local crafts, farmyard animals, fresh produce and fairground games. With over 20 stalls in the Yurt village and a programme of events and activities throughout the day, the SCOOP Summer Market will be celebrating the harvest season and local creative makers and producers.

Lunch will be served from midday until 15:00, with drinks and cakes available from 11:00 to 17:00. Activities will include pottery, parachute games, flower crown making, apple bobbing and face painting.

Artisan Market

When? Saturday 9 September – 10:00 to 15:00

Where? Trinity Parish Hall

What? Trinity Climate Change Group is hosting an artisan market with a variety of goods made locally, from artworks to crocheted and knitted items, textile crafts, sand coasters, wax melts, essential oils, ceramics, seaglass jewellery, as well as cakes, biscuits, jams and chutneys. Food and refreshments will be available.

Jersey Horse of The Year Show

When? Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September

Where? Home Farm Equestrian, La Rue es Abbés, St John, Jersey

What? JHOYS brings together the whole equestrian community with 10 days of competing across four disciplines. On Saturday, there will be the In Hand Showing Championship followed Working Hunter, whilst on Sunday, it will be Ridden Showing. Shopping, drinks, food and kids activities will also be on hand in the spectactors’ village.

RAFA Concert & Beat Retreat

When? Sunday 10 September – 14:30

Where? Howard Davis Park

What? The Band of The Island of Jersey will be performing their traditional concert, followed by a Beat Retreat, in the presence of the Bailiff Sir Timothy Le Cocq, as part of the local branch of the Royal Air Forces Association The event is free, with a retiring collection towards the work of RAFA.
