Gaming enthusiasts in Jersey are practicing hard for the eSports.je Winter Tournament, powered by Sure, as they seek to perfect their skills in their quest for first place and the opportunity to take home some of the prize pot.

This year, however, there is lot more than the prizes at stake, there’s also public acclaim, as islanders are being invited to watch the final stages of eSports.je’s Winter Tournament, at the Digital Jersey Hub on the 18th, 19th and 20th November.

Teams are competing to win in one of five games at the tournament: Hearthstone, Rocket League, League of Legends, Street Fighter V and Counterstrike: Global Offensive.

eSports is a worldwide phenomenon that sees the best computer games players compete for both gold and glory in front of huge online and offline audiences. eSports.je has been established to promote eSports in Jersey and to build a community of gamers who enjoy both competing and watching eSports around the world.

As well as the finals at the DJ Hub, there’s also an opportunity for islanders to get a taste of the excitement at the semi-final of the League of Legends tournament which is being held at the Jersey Techfair at Fort Regent on November 12th

“We’d love people to come to watch and support the teams, who will all be battling for first place in one of the five games that we’re competing in over the weekend,” said Ed Peck, co-founder of eSports.je.

“As more people discover eSports.je we’re beginning to get a better understanding of the gaming community in Jersey and can already see that the standard of gaming is high. Our winter tournament gives a fantastic opportunity for more island gamers to have a go at competing against their peers.”

Ed’s colleague at eSports.je, Ian Carr (co-founder), sees eSports only becoming more popular in the island.

“Thanks to Sure’s sponsorship and the DJ Hub’s offer to host the finals, we’ve been able to better promote the winter tournament and raise the profile of eSports in Jersey. Whether through playing, creating or watching games, eSports is a particularly effective channel through which people can engage with technology.

“Although this tournament isn’t our first, the response it has generated suggests that we are seeing growing interest in the island and we think that this could be the start of growth in the sport in Jersey.”
