The 2015 Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Annual Schools’ Tag Rugby Festival will take place on 14 March.

With 38 school teams already registered for the competition this year, the teams will be split into two groups for the festival: years three and four in one group and years five and six in the other with all competing in cup, plate and bowl competitions.

More than 400 primary school children took part in the festival last year, which is now in its 16th year. The Vale Vipers lifted the senior cup after a close final against St Martin’s team and the junior cup was won by La Mare Tigers.

Tag Rugby is a non-contact version of rugby and is played in teams of 10-12 players, with seven players on the pitch at all times.

Steve Melbourne, the Guernsey Rugby Development Officer is organising the event. To celebrate the Rugby World Cup, this year the festival will be run as a ‘mini World Cup’ with each school being allocated a country to represent during the competition.

“I would like to thank Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management for the support again this year in what should be a fantastic day of rugby for these young players,” said Mr Melbourne.

“With England hosting the Rugby world Cup in 2015 this is a great opportunity for the Schools on Guernsey to show their support to the competition. This is the first of several competitions and festivals that will have a Rugby world Cup theme.”

Trophies and medals will be presented to the winning teams in each competition as well as to the ‘most sportsmanlike team’ in each age group. All participants will receive an event t-shirt from Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management as a memento of the day.

Andy Finch, head of wealth management at Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management in Guernsey, said: “We are very pleased to support the Annual School’s Tag Festival. The event grows every year, which reflects the hard work of the organisers and the enthusiasm the island’s school children have for taking part. The festival is a great way to raise the profile of the game and it is fantastic to see so many children enjoy the sport, especially in a World Cup year. There is always a great atmosphere at the festival and I am sure this year will be no exception. ”

The Festival will take place on the pitch at the Garenne Stand at Footes Lane between 9am and 2pm. Refreshments for family, friends and players will be available throughout the day.
