People who enjoy a regular meal with Meals on Wheels service have received an extra delivery as ABN AMRO supports local ‘lifeline’ charities this Christmas.

ABN AMRO has donated a box of chocolates or biscuits to the dozens of people who use the island’s Meals on Wheels service, which is run by the Guernsey Voluntary Service. They will also get an extra visit over the festive period.

‘Meals on Wheels is a real lifeline. The service’s volunteers offer hot lunch and pudding, six days a week, and a friendly face for some of the most vulnerable in our community. ABN AMRO staff wanted to support Guernsey’s Meals on Wheels by collecting an extra Christmas gift for the people who use the service,’ said Donna Allan, from the bank’s CSR committee.

Sandy Wilson, who is the Meals on Wheels Co-ordinator, said: ‘For our clients, it means they get an extra bit at Christmas. This donation by ABN Amro means they get a gift because not all of them have got family members. We do try to make sure that everyone is cared for, but that doesn’t mean they are going to have the same Christmas as others.’

As well as supporting Meals on Wheels, ABN AMRO staff have collected food items to donate to the Women’s Refuge and Age Concern Guernsey this Christmas. ‘These charities provide vital services for islanders who may be facing a particularly tough Christmas. By encouraging our 150 staff to bring in a few items, we hope to make even a small difference,’ added Donna.

Age Concern Guernsey supports older people in the island. The Refuge can accommodate up to five women and their children, with staff also providing outreach support to victims of domestic abuse. They will distribute food to individuals and to families who may have very little this Christmas.
