This year’s evening of family fundraising fun at Harbour Carnival raised £22.300 with the main beneficiary, The HUB’s Sunflower Project receiving half of the total.
Dustyn Molver from Harbour Carnival organisers, the Guernsey Round Table commented: ‘We’re absolutely delighted that after so many months of behind-the-scenes planning, the whole night was a success resulting in this donation to The HUB. We are really grateful to everyone who contributed to the grand total; to those who took part in the events, volunteered on the night or dug deep to support the cause. The weather was a little greyer than expected, but it didn’t dampen Guernsey’s great community spirit!’
Charlie Cox from The HUB was equally complimentary: ‘We’ve thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this year’s Harbour Carnival. From dropping off and picking up all the Best Dressed Mini Ducks from the Primary schools, selling Mini Ducks in town and helping on the night. We’re so pleased that £11,150 will allow our Sunflower Project to continue to offer emotional support to children who have experienced bereavement or a serious illness in their family.’
2017 marked RBC Wealth Management’s 10 year anniversary of sponsoring Harbour Carnival, which alongside festivities on the night was celebrated with the launch of the RBC Fundraising Cup. Awarded to the team or individual who raised the most amount of money, the inaugural winners were the Stand Up Paddle Board team, The Seamen Catcher, raising close to £200 which was match funded by RBC Wealth Management.
Andy Creber, from the Guernsey Leadership Team at RBC Wealth Management, concluded: ‘It truly is a team effort from organiser, sponsor and beneficiary to put on an event the size of Harbour Carnival and I’d like to personally thank everyone that has given up their free time in support of The HUB. Supporting youth is one of RBC’s key areas of community focus so it’s heartening to know that these funds will provide much needed support to young people in Guernsey.’
The remaining 50% of the grand total will be distributed by the Guernsey Round Table to a range of local good causes throughout the year. Details of next year’s event will be announced in the new year.
