Aurigny is delighted to present more than £3,000 to the Channel Islands Air Search thanks to the success of its Trislander Farewell Flights.

More than 120 people helped to raise the funds when they took to the skies for the scenic flights on Aurigny’s now-retired Trislander G-BEVT, better known as Victor Tango.

A cheque for £3,050 has been presented to CIAS representatives today and these funds will be put towards the ongoing running costs of the air search, which is so reliant on the generosity of local individuals and businesses.

Aurigny CEO Mark Darby said the airline was delighted with the level of public support for the Trislander charity flights.

Mr Darby said: “The charity flights proved to be incredibly popular with the public, really capturing their imagination, and it’s thanks to their support that we have been able to raise this total. The Channel Islands Air Search plays such a vital role in the community and has saved so many lives. It really is a worthy cause.I’d like to thank everyone who made these flights possible, including the public, our staff and the airports.”

David Hugo, President of the Guernsey Friends of Air Search, said: Channel Islands Air Search was delighted to have been selected as the charity to benefit from the recent sold out Trislander Farewell flights from Alderney, Guernsey and Southampton. We are very grateful to all those who took the opportunity of a final trip on board Victor Tango; to the airport authorities who kindly waived fees to increase the amount raised, and above all to Aurigny for their hard work behind the scenes in organising these commemorative flights. Air Search is a wholly voluntary organisation and fundraising initiatives of this kind make a massive difference in helping to cover the service's £140,000 annual running costs.”

The sold-out charity flights were held in Guernsey, Alderney and Southampton in May, with all the profits from these flights going to the air search. Guernsey and Southampton Airports also agreed to waive airport fees, so extra funds could go to the charity.
