An award-winning lawyer has joined the board of Trust Corporation International as a trust director from highly-regarded boutique private client law firm Maurice Turnor Gardner LLP.
Lydia Essa relocated to Guernsey last year with her family. Her appointment as a director underpins a sustained period of growth, in terms of both new business and headcount, at Trust Corporation International.
A law graduate from New Hall, Cambridge, Ms Essa was a senior associate in the private client department at Allen & Overy LLP in London for five years before joining the private wealth team at Maurice Turnor Gardner in 2009.
Whilst in private practice, Lydia focused on the design, implementation and administration of complex offshore asset holding structures with multi-jurisdictional asset bases, complex financing arrangements and diverse personal and business interests - acquiring a wealth of relevant expertise to bring to her new position as an offshore fiduciary. She has also been involved in a number of high-profile contentious trust and probate matters.
Jonathan Plimley, director at Trust Corporation International, said: “We are delighted to welcome Lydia to our board. Whilst Lydia will not provide advice, her vast experience and track record of considering legal and taxation issues are hugely relevant to her new role of managing offshore structures.”
Among her endorsements, the Citywealth leaders’ list read: “Lydia is the 'next big thing in the world of premier private client advisors’ … it is clear she is destined for an impressive career." Ms Essa has also twice been listed in Private Client Practitioner’s Top 35 under 35 and was noted for being “singled out by clients” in the Legal 500.
