Guernsey Electricity has celebrated the long-term commitment and service of employees who have achieved significant milestones with the firm. The annual Long Service Awards recognised 13 employees who together have clocked 260 years working at Guernsey Electricity.

Ray Philippe, Dick Jones and Graham Saussey celebrated 40 years’ service having joined within months of each other in 1974.

Mr Philippe started his career as an electrical mate and has worked within the electrical operations department ever since. He now works as an electrical mechanic responsible for maintaining the safe and secure operation of the plant and equipment.

“I’ve always enjoyed working at Guernsey Electricity and have made many friends during my years with the business”, he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Jones joined the company as an engine room attendant. After 10 years he was promoted to shift fitter before taking up his current position as station operator in the generation operations team. In this role he monitors and maintains equipment, and records operational data.

He said, “My role has changed over the years but I have always enjoyed the maintenance side of my work the most”.

The awards also recognised four employees who each have 20 years’ service: Jacqueline Donaldson, Brian Thorburn, Sara Walden, and Maria Welton.

Six employees collected awards for 10 years’ service with Guernsey Electricity. This included Graham Carrington, Karl Brouard, Iain Thompson, Guy Breaton, Darren Langford and Nigel Burbridge.

The firm also celebrated one of its trainees with the Guernsey Electricity Trainee of the Year Award. Jordan Pipet was presented with the award for completing his apprenticeship with excellent exam results and for his positive attitude in the workplace.

Chief executive Alan Bates said, “I would like to thank everyone who has been recognised for their dedication, commitment and loyalty. They have played an important role in our company and we greatly value the contribution they have made over their many years with Guernsey Electricity. I am pleased that their hard work has been celebrated with these awards and I offer my congratulations to them all. It is also fantastic to recognise Jordan’s many achievements over his time with the company and celebrate the positive example he sets to others.”
