The Royal Bank of Canada Garden was officially opened by the Bailiff of Guernsey and award-winning garden designer, Hugo Bugg. Following its showcase at last year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the garden has been donated by Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and relocated to Les Cotils in partnership with Floral Guernsey to form part of a new floral trail through St Peter Port.

Designed by Hugo Bugg, the Royal Bank of Canada Garden celebrates water, not as a commodity, but as an entity sacred to humanity. The garden draws inspiration from the Mediterranean pine habitat of Jordan, using impactful plantings and innovative materials coupled with bold geometric forms to help increase awareness and appreciation of water.

The Bailiff, Sir Richard Collas, said: ‘The generous donation by RBC of this award-winning garden marks a key stage in the new St Peter Port floral trail. We are especially delighted to welcome the work of world-renowned designer Hugo Bugg into the Island. The relocation of this garden is a culmination of incredible team effort, generosity and goodwill from a number of local organisations and I applaud their success.’

Les Cotils, a 12-acre charitable trust which supports a broad range of community groups in Guernsey, applied to RBC to be the beneficiary of the Silver-Gilt medal winning garden. The opening reception included a personal tour of the garden by Hugo.

Fiona Naftel, Managing Director at Les Cotils, commenting on the donation said: ‘It is wonderful to have a piece of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show within our grounds. The garden is now open for the public to enjoy and we encourage the people of Guernsey and visitors alike to come and explore this innovative and inspiring space.’

The garden is in keeping with the goals of the RBC Blue Water Project, a wide-ranging, 10-year global commitment to help protect the world’s fresh water resources.

Dan Bisson, Managing Director at RBC Wealth Management, added: ‘This symbolic and sculptural garden reinforces our long standing commitment to water preservation. Hugo’s ability to express the importance of water and integrate it into a striking garden is extraordinary. We are therefore delighted that this award-winning Chelsea garden has found its permanent home in Guernsey to benefit the Island for years to come.’
