25 guests from local charities attended a recent community networking event where they were shown the diverse range of initiatives that Barclays offer the local community through their staff volunteers.

The aim of the event was for the charity attendees to network as well as to showcase areas where Barclays is able to offer support.  Individual displays were set up for each Barclays initiative. These included LifeSkills, Code Playground, Digital Wings, Digital Eagles, Student Business Challenge, accessibility tools and community investment.

The charities had the opportunity to speak directly to Barclays staff about the difference initiatives, as well as the process to apply for funding or staff volunteering support.

Lifelong learning manager at Careers Guernsey, Alun Williams, attended the networking event on Wednesday 27 July. Mr Williams has been a key supporter of Barclays’ LifeSkills programme; introducing it as part of the secondary schools’ curriculum.

He said: “Barclays is well supported in the company’s endeavor to volunteer staff and expertise to the people of Guernsey. The community networking event was a chance for charities to see how much they can benefit from these different initiatives.

“Barclays has shown its commitment to the community and the company has set the bar for other companies to follow.”

Ken Bradley, director of Barclays in Guernsey said: “This event was a great success and we’ve been receiving excellent feedback from the charities that attended.

“The event gave Barclays the opportunity to showcase the support we can offer the local community in a number of areas. We are very much looking forward to building on this and supporting more local charities in this way in the future.”
