Staff from Barclays in Guernsey have been supporting Scouting in Guernsey by helping to clean, paint and plant at Les Maingys Activity Centre, the local Scout Headquarters.

The bank has supported the Scouts in Guernsey for several years. Previously the organisation has received grants from the Barclays Champion Charities programme but this year staff have got involved by giving up their time to volunteer.

Barclays’ Dave Bartram said: “We were keen to support the Scouts again this year and invest some of our time in activities that would benefit them.”

Les Maingys Activity Centre is used by all 11 Scout groups in the Bailiwick as well as schools and youth groups from the island and further afield. The not-for-profit facilities and activities are also available for private parties and functions.

“Obviously maintaining this site is important, but it is time consuming and costly,” said Mr Bartram. “Just by doing a few things, like painting a wall, and cleaning up and replanting some areas, we can make a difference to the overall experience of using the site. Our volunteers were really happy to get stuck in and we had a really good time too.”

Ali Bulpitt, Guernsey’s Trainee Centre Manager , said: “'Les Maingys is an integral part of Scouting in the Bailiwick. Barclays' continued support has been fantastic in ensuring the Centre is well maintained and we would like to thank all of the volunteers for their time and effort.”
