The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) is today celebrating the extension of its employer partner network to the Channel Islands, with the news that Beau Sejour Leisure Centre in Guernsey has become CIMSPA’s first employer partner outside of the United Kingdom.

Beau Sejour Leisure Centre is Guernsey’s largest community sport and leisure facility, providing the island’s 63,000 residents access to a range of sport, swim, fitness and group exercise options.

Beau Sejour’s indoor and outdoor courts and pitches are used by its “Freedom” members and the public for a wide variety for sports, including squash, badminton, five-a-side, basketball, volleyball, netball and softball.

The centre also supports the island’s culture and arts via a 400-seat theatre.

Under the new partnership staff at Beau Sejour will have access to membership of the UK sport and physical activity sector’s chartered professional body – CIMSPA. Ongoing training and professional development for staff will also be aligned to the CIMSPA professional standards matrix which is being adopted by sector employers representing over 65,000 sport, fitness and leisure professionals across the UK.

Commenting on the new partnership, Sam Herridge, Head of Recreation Services for the States of Guernsey said:

“We’re very proud of being the first organisation in the Channel Islands to become a CIMSPA employer partner – a partnership that will benefit both our staff and our centre’s users.

“For those working at Beau Sejour, they will have access to both professional recognition by a chartered professional body and the opportunity to build a career in the sport and leisure industry. Also, the people of Guernsey can be assured that the fitness, health and wellbeing services on offer at Beau Sejour are being provided to the highest possible standard, by professional staff qualified to support and encourage a healthy, active lifestyle for our community.” Page | 2

On behalf of CIMSPA, Tara Dillon, CEO, added:

“It’s very exciting to see CIMSPA’s workforce development project extend beyond the shores of the UK mainland. Our ambition is that all sport and leisure professionals have access to the career pathways and upskilling we are offering, regardless of their location.

“We’re looking forward to ensuring that CIMSPA’s work contributes to the States of Guernsey’s ambitions for the health and wellbeing of the island’s population.”
