Guernsey's Young Business Group is once again calling for enterprising islanders to apply for the Bill Green Award for Entrepreneurial Spirit.

The award, which is run by YBG on behalf of the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce, is for new or established businesses which are making their mark on the local business scene with a fresh direction or project.

This year's award will be launched at The Venue, Fermain Valley Hotel, on 19th February, at YBG's annual drinks party for existing and prospective members. A short film will be shown about last year's award winner, IBZ.tv, and YBG President Gill Mabbett and Vice President Wing Lai will say a few words about the Bill Green award scheme.

Entries for the 2015 award will be judged by a panel including Mrs Mabbett, Mr Lai and YBG Membership Secretary Lindsey Dean, plus Chamber council member Fionnuala Carvill, and Carl Symes, Chamber member and mentor at entrepreneurial advisory group Startup Guernsey.

Mrs Dean said that the judges would be looking for a robust business model and evidence of a well-researched business plan, as well as vision, leadership and personality within the organisation.

She added that successful applicants would also be able to show evidence of how the business had managed any risks or challenges that had arisen and how they had developed the business, and to outline a clear plan for future sustainability.

"The judging panel for this year's Bill Green Award is very much looking forward to receiving applications from local businesspeople who feel they have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit," she said. "It's a fantastic opportunity for those local businesses to be part of the judging process and to try to raise the profile of their business. Many of our previous winners have gone on to win the Awards for Achievement and other prestigious awards in Guernsey."

Entries for the award should include a letter describing the business in question and its future objectives and initiatives, and explaining why that business should win the award. Applications can be sent by post to YBG Vice President Wing Lai at Watts & Co Ltd, One High Street, St Peter Port, Guernsey, GY1 2LZ or by email to Wing.Lai@wattsandco.co. Mr Lai can also be contacted for more information about the award, and for general information about YBG.
