Butterfield has awarded Heather Ewert and Rebecca Burton bursaries after they secured places to study at King’s College London and the University of Bath respectively.
The Butterfield bursary is awarded annually and offers financial support and work experience to two local students for three years of their chosen university course.
Miss Ewert attended the Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre and studied for A-Levels in English literature, chemistry, biology and AS level psychology. She will attend King’s College London to study global health and social medicine, a brand new course to the UK this year having been run in American universities including Harvard.
“I was interested in gaining experience within an office, different to my normal working environment,” said Miss Ewert. “The financial support provided by Butterfield during my degree will be invaluable in purchasing textbooks and helping with other university expenses.”
Miss Burton attended The Ladies’ College and undertook maths, further maths and physics at A-Level. She will be studying mathematics at the University of Bath.
“I decided to apply for the Butterfield bursary as Butterfield is a reputable local company and they specialise in areas of financial services that I am considering working in in the future,” said Miss Burton. "The work experience will give me insight as to what it is like working for an international bank and will enhance my future career prospects.”
Kim Reece-Sheerin, Butterfield’s European Human Resources Senior Manager, said: “Heather and Rebecca have worked hard and achieved fantastic A-Level results allowing them to study their chosen degree courses at top UK Universities. Rebecca’s passion for maths will stand her in good stead for a great career. Her time working at Butterfield during the holidays will give her a good grounding in the types of roles in the finance industry that could be of interest to her once she’s completed her degree.
“Heather has chosen to focus on pharmacology as part of her degree, giving her a wide variety of career options for the future. Her course is brand new to the UK which gives her a brilliant advantage to gain in-depth knowledge and skills in a new area. We, at Butterfield, are pleased to support both Heather and Rebecca with their higher education and we look forward to welcoming them for work experience during their university holidays.”
