St Peter Port will once again welcome a fleet of fine classic yachts this July as the biennial Classic Channel Regatta returns to the island, supported by Guernsey sponsor Butterfield.

More than 70 ships will take part in the 2015 regatta, which begins in Dartmouth on Saturday 11 July, visiting the port of Paimpol and incorporating a series of races. The regatta then finishes in St Peter Port on Saturday 18 July after the Classic Round Sark Race.

This is the sixth time the event has been held and will continue the tradition of bringing together yachts from around the world in the spirit of friendly competition whilst enjoying the regatta’s distinct West Country and Breton scenery.

Butterfield’s sponsorship of the Guernsey leg of the event is particularly fitting after their head office in Bermuda was confirmed as the official Bermuda Bank of the 2017 America’s Cup Bermuda.

John Robinson, managing director of Butterfield Bank (Guernsey) Limited, said: “We are delighted to support the Classic Channel Regatta again in 2015. The sight of the flotilla of ships heading towards St. Peter Port is quite spectacular. We are delighted to welcome the yachts and their crew to Guernsey for what I am sure will be a great week of competition.”

Bruce Thorogood, regatta organiser, said: “We are very grateful indeed for the support of Butterfield Bank and Sports Guernsey - for without this support it would not be possible for the regatta to come to Guernsey.

“We are also very grateful for the assistance and cooperation of Guernsey Harbours and the Guernsey Yacht Club which hosts the regatta while in St Peter Port.”
