Staff from Butterfield walked all the way to Bermuda and back – more than twice.

During National Walking Month the bank challenged its staff to cover as a group the 3,349 miles between Guernsey and their Bermudan colleagues’ offices across in the mid Atlantic.

But 28 teams of four smashed the target by covering a massive 18,196 miles.

The winning team was Trotters Independent Traders, comprising Charlie de Nobrega, Nigel Garrard, Liz Kimber and Tom Swain. They covered a distance of 1261.03 miles and will each receive an extra day’s holiday.

Jonathan Keys-Massey walked the furthest individually during the month, covering 528.6 miles; in one week alone he covered 140.3 miles. The bank rewarded him with a Fitbit activity wristband.

Participants raised £112 through an entry fee; this will be matched by the bank and donated to Cardiac Action Group in Guernsey.

‘It was great to see some healthy competition within the office and it’s really encouraging that so many people threw themselves into the challenge,’ said Richard Saunders, Butterfield’s managing director and head of wealth management in Guernsey.

‘Butterfield is dedicated to helping staff look after their health, fitness and wellbeing and this challenge not only brought physical benefits but also helped our employees from different areas of the bank to get to know one another better.’
