Lawyers from Carey Olsen have braved the chilly waters of Belle Greve Bay to raise money for the firm’s two current chosen charities – the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation (the foundation) and Guernsey Disability Swimming LBG (GDS).
16 partners and staff from the firm and two representatives from GDS swam in the freezing water on Tuesday (2 May) to raise a total of £1,113 for the charities.
The firm’s fundraising efforts this year will go towards the costs of acquiring crucial neonatal equipment for the foundation and help GDS raise money for a self-propelled poolside wheelchair. With this equipment some disabled swimmers will be able to get from the changing rooms to the pool and back independently.
Carey Olsen's charities’ committee agreed to support the foundation and GDS for two charitable funding cycles running 2015/16 and 2016/2017. The support included individual donations, organising fundraising initiatives, practical help with events and projects as well as advice and support where needed.
In the 2015/2016 charitiable funding cycle the firm raised £16,000 and aims to raise as much, if not more, for them in the 2016/2017cycle.
Partner Ben Morgan, who took part in the Belle Greve Bay swim, said: “Our staff are always happy to try anything to raise money for these two fantastic charities both of which have strong connections to our staff. We had a great year of fundraising in 2016 and hope to continue to raise as much money for the charities as possible.”
GDS chairman, Roger Allsopp, said: “We are so grateful to the staff at Carey Olsen for giving up their office time to raise money for our charity. Their fundraising efforts and support has been invaluable, enabling us to continue our hire of the Beau Sejour pool and run social events for our members.”
