The Little Chapel Foundation’s fundraising initiative has received a significant boost to its coffers after local jewellery designers Catherine Best and her daughter Vikki Freeman created the ‘Dress to Impress with Catherine Best’ ball held at Beau Sejour last week.
Months of work went into organising the event which raised more than £84,353 for The Little Chapel Foundation’s fund to restore and maintain the historic monument in St Andrews.
“The Little Chapel is an iconic Guernsey landmark and tourist attraction. I cherish the memories of my visits there with many family and friends over the years and we’re proud to be a part of the fundraising effort this year,” said Catherine.
“We could not have had such a successful event without Guernsey people - within weeks we had the support of so many local businesses buying tables to the event and helping with sponsorships.”
Guernsey Fintech business FCG, the parent company of UK insurance provider 1st CENTRAL, donated a Hyundai i10 premium hatchback, supplied by Barras Car Centre, as the feature item of the raffle which sold 1300 tickets and was won by mother of three Julia Jager.
FCG group chairman and chief executive officer, Mike Leonard, said: “We are a leading business in Guernsey and we are passionate about supporting our island community. When Catherine approached us to help we were only too happy to get involved in a project that will help ensure generations of Guernsey people and visitors will enjoy this wonderful building and its history.”
Little Chapel Foundation head of fundraising, Jack Honeybill, said: “The funds raised through the car raffle and the event itself gives us a fantastic start to the winter fundraising campaign in which we are seeking to raise at least £130,000. Work commences in earnest from 1 November with a larger work force and the target is to reopen the Little Chapel by 1 March.”
