Two charities are doing swimmingly thanks to a record breaking 2014 Skipton Swimarathon which raised £50,102, one of the highest amounts raised in the event’s 38 year history.

Organised by The Lions Club and The Guernsey Round Table, donations have been made to the 2014 principal beneficiaries, Channel Islands Air Search and Autism Guernsey.

A total of £22,500 goes to the Channel Islands Air Search, which will be putting the funds towards the replacement of the Lions' Pride aircraft. Mike Tidd of the Channel Islands Air Search said: “We are very grateful for this donation which brings us within our £800,000 target towards our replacement aircraft. We wish to thank every swimmer for their efforts and to the organisers for selecting us as a beneficiary.”

Representing The Lions Club, President Angela Waters said: “We are very pleased to be able to support the Channel Islands Air Search with funds from this year’s Swimarathon. The aircraft replacement has a significant meaning to us as the Lions Club raised the funds for the original aircraft Lions’ Pride. The event is held in conjunction with Round Table and our mutual co-operation ensures a well-organised event. We are especially grateful to our sponsors Skipton International, who offer the event so much support.”

Chairman, Steve Hogg, said: “The support we received for the event was tremendous and makes the hard work of the organising committee throughout the year worthwhile. We are very grateful to everyone who took part and to event sponsors Skipton International for their ongoing support which plays a major part in the success of the event. To see the funds going to such worthy community initiatives is excellent and we trust the Channel Islands Air Search Team are soon able to acquire their new aircraft”

Jim Coupe, MD of Skipton International said they were pleased to continue to sponsor this successful community centric event, and confirmed that the Skipton Swimarathon 2015 will take place from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 11 October 2015.
