KERBSIDE recycling in Guernsey starts next month and Public Services wants to answer any questions islanders might have about the collections.

Information packs are being sent to all households before the launch of the interim scheme on 10 March and islanders will also receive a year’s supply of the specially designed clear and blue bags.

Waste prevention and recycling officer Tina Norman-Ross said: ‘We have made the scheme as simple as we can for everyone. Starting on 10 March households will be able to put their recycling out on their normal refuse collection night and it will be taken to be sorted and then recycled.

‘On the first week, paper and card can be put out in the clear bags and on the second week, tins, cans, plastic containers and drinks cartons can be put out in the blue bags. During the interim scheme, islanders will still need to take their glass to the bring banks.’

Public Services recently undertook a survey at the Home Life Show, which revealed that the majority of islanders were looking forward to using the scheme.

‘I think people are ready for kerbside,’ said Mrs Norman-Ross. ‘However we understand that people might still have some questions, or want some advice on how they can make the most of the recycling collections.

‘We have arranged a series of drop-ins where we will be on hand to answer any questions or queries islanders might have.’
