EY’s Channel Islands offices welcome 14 local university students for the second year running.

The four-week summer internship programme is designed to provide an invaluable insight into the world of professional services.

The students, eight from Guernsey and six from Jersey, will be taking part in a wide range of activities, combining on the job learning through work experience and management shadowing with projects, skills workshops and presentations.

During their time with EY, the interns will gain vital professional skills and learn about the work the firm’s assurance and tax teams provide. They will also be given the opportunity to develop the soft skills required to build a successful career, including networking, personal branding and presentation skills.

”The internship is a great experience for those who want to learn more about assurance or tax and I would encourage students with an interest in those areas to apply,”, said one of last year’s interns, Tom Hutchinson, who has joined EY for a second summer as an Intern Ambassador.

“I was not only able to gain knowledge about what EY does and the variety of opportunities they offer, but I was given the chance to develop my soft skills. In particular, I found the networking and communications training incredibly useful as it has improved my aptitude in a business context for these essential skills, which is one of the attractions of this internship,” says Maelle Smith, who is also an Intern Ambassador.

The internship allows the interns to fully immerse themselves in EY’s business, undertaking work of a first year trainee so they can experience first-hand the firm’s way of working and culture, and the programme also includes cross-island induction and wrap-up sessions and participating in team-building and corporate volunteering activities, and each intern is allocated their own mentor, whose role is to help the interns create personal development plans, provide feedback on progression and to discuss the possible career paths available at EY locally and globally.

“This really helped us achieve our personal goals and ensured we were gaining relevant experience in the areas we were most interested in,” said Maelle.
