April will see a fifth event added to Les Bourgs Hospice’s 30/30 fundraising initiative.

Last year saw the long-running 30/30 cycle challenge in May being followed by the inaugural 30 bays in 30 days in July and then 30 runs in 30 days in October. This month saw the introduction of 30 makes in 30 days and next month, the first walk 30 ways in 30 days will take place.

"We now have a calendar of 30/30 events that islanders, of all ages, whether they are sporty or creative, can take part in and help Les Bourgs Hospice continue to provide the care it does to people with life-limiting illnesses," said Les Bourgs Hospice fundraising co-ordinator Trish De Carteret.

"The enthusiasm shown for the three events last year has highlighted just how much islanders love a challenge and so we hope the two events we have introduced this year will mean there really is something for everyone."

Mrs De Carteret said walk 30 ways in 30 days would see participants walking for 30 minutes a day with the aim of walking somewhere different every time.

"We are extremely lucky to have such an amazing array of places to walk from the rugged cliffs on the south coast to the coastal paths on the west. Islanders love to walk but most probably follow the same few routes and so we hope to encourage people to explore different parts of Guernsey," she said.

"It’s very flexible and you can bank walks if you are busy but hopefully the lighter mornings and evenings will mean people can fit it into their day and catch up with any they missed at the weekends. We’re also helping that it’s something couples, families and friends can do together and even people outside of Guernsey can take part."

She added that April was the right month to do run the event as it tied in with Visit Guernsey’s Heritage Festival.

"Visit Guernsey has lots of walks on its website including a list of tasty walks which includes refreshment stops. During April they also have the Heritage Festival so people can walk and learn something about Guernsey’s history at the same time," she said.

The walk 30 ways in 30 days starts on 1st April and Mrs De Carteret is looking to organise a group walk at the finish of the month-long event where people can share experiences and hand in their sponsorship money. Registration costs £10 for adults and £5 for children and can be done online at www.lesbourgshospice.org.gg or by completing a registration form and returning it to Les Bourgs Hospice. T-shirts are also available at £10 each and can be purchases at the time of registration.
