A complimentary shuttle bus service will commence on Monday 15 September to serve the Forest Road area while planned roadworks are carried out.
The free bus service is being provided by JT, one of the telecoms companies involved in the works, to offer a shuttle service between Les Nicolles and Rue Maze Monday to Saturday during peak hours (07:30-09:30 and 16:30-18:30). It is one step that JT has taken to alleviate any concerns and ensure that islanders can get to where they need to be with as little disturbance as possible while essential network improvements are made.
The environment department has warned motorists to allow up to 30 minutes of extra time for their journey at peak times and the complimentary shuttle bus service provides a connection with scheduled and school bus routes which will be affected by the diversions that will be in place from Monday.
JT’s Engineering Manager, Kevan Marquand, said: “We understand the consequences of carrying out works on a major road and hope that the free shuttle service will provide some support to those who will be affected. We take seriously our responsibility to minimise the impact of our network extension works on residents and businesses and as well as the bus service, we have extended our working hours with the intention of completing the works as quickly as possible.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by these necessary and essential works which are inevitable when making such significant network improvements. It is with the wider community in mind that we are improving our network to extend our fibre-optic services to more premises across Guernsey and bring technological advantages for all. That said we remain mindful that while we make strides in bringing this technology to Guernsey, that we work alongside and support islanders to alleviate any disturbance.”
During the phased road works, both JT and Sure will be carrying out work to their networks.
The free bus service will run between 07:30 and 09:30, and then between 16:30 to 18:30 Monday to Saturday inclusive. For detailed information on the road closures please visit: http://www.iris.gov.gg/Website/roads/cutjobs.asp
