The challenges and opportunities for the further education and skills industry will be discussed at an event which will see a debate from London stream lived to the GTA University Centre.
The GTA is continuing to host live lectures from the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) and streams regular seminars to enable islanders to access the debate. To provide local context, Guernsey experts then facilitate a debate on the topic from an island perspective.
GTA University Centre chief executive Simon Le Tocq said: "The live stream events have covered a wide range of topics and it’s been fascinating to hear the thoughts of those in the UK and then follow it with a local discussion.
"The forthcoming lecture on re-imagining the future of further education and skills is particularly poignant given the island’s recent discussions about what our education system might look like in the future."
On the panel of the event in London will be Sir Vince Cable, former Secretary of State for Business and Skills, Sue Husband, director of apprenticeship and delivery service at the Skills Funding Agency and Dame Ruth Silver, president of the Further Education Trust for Leadership. They will be joined by Martin Doel, chief executive of the Association of Colleges, Adam Marshall, acting director-general of the British Chamber of Commerce and Matthew Taylor, chief executive of the RSA.
After the live streaming event, Mr Le Tocq will be joined by Saboohi Famili, chief executive and principal of the Guernsey College of Further Education for a local debate.
Mr Le Tocq said: "The near future presents a critical turning point for the FE and skills sector with many challenges and opportunities including funding and the commitment in the UK for three million apprenticeships to start. There are challenges and opportunities locally as well and it should be a lively and information event."
