Local runners have less than one month to sign up for this year’s Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Guernsey Marathon.

The annual event is taking place on Sunday 30 August 2015.

Runners can complete the marathon as an individual or as a relay team of two or five and compete on behalf of a business, charity or club.

The marathon will take runners through all 10 parishes and along some of the island’s most scenic roads and paths.  The race course begins in the heart of St Peter Port and follows the coast to measure the UKA accredited distance of 26 miles and 385 yards.

Funds raised from the marathon will be donated to Guernsey Cheshire Home, a charity dedicated to providing care and support for adults living with severe physical disabilities.

“The marathon is open to runners of all ages and abilities - the committed club runners, the serious and fun runners, the first timers and those who want to take part in fancy dress,” said Peter Head, Race Director for Guernsey Marathon.

“There is a limit to the number of runners that can take part in the event so if you want to compete as an individual or a relay team it is best to get your entry in sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.“

Mr Head is holding weekly running sessions with members of the relay team from Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management in the run up to the marathon. In these sessions he trains the runners in long distance techniques such as cadence, breathing and posture.

The first place male and female runner will receive an award of £1,000, with second and third place winners collecting £500 and £250, respectively.  There will also be awards for the first placed Guernsey runner, Channel Island runner and the fastest runners over the age of 40, 50 and 60.

A new prize for the 2015 event will be given to the fastest male and female entrants running their first competitive marathon. A bonus prize of £500 is on offer for the runner who can break the current record of 2 hours, 18 minutes and 11 seconds set in 2013 by Freddie Sittuk from Kenya.

Online entries must be received by 6.00pm on Thursday 27 August, postal entries will be accepted up until 6.00pm on Friday 28 August and entries in person can be submitted at the registration on Saturday 29 August.

There is a limit of 500 runners for the marathon and 150 teams for the relay races. Runners can find more event details and online entry forms at www.guernseymarathon.gg
