The GTA University Centre, in conjunction with the Digital Greenhouse, was one of 39 winners across the UK of the 2016 National Coding Week Awards.
There were just two winners in the Channel Islands with the GTA and Digital Jersey both being highly commended, an award given to just 13 recipients.
GTA programmes manager Kate Sole said: "The GTA has been offering a wide range of digital courses as we recognise that there is a growing need for these skills, which many people either don’t possess or don’t have the expertise they need.
"During National Coding Week, the GTA partnered with the Digital Greenhouse and Gocher Computing to offer a specific coding course which introduced delegates to the fundamentals of coding. This was complemented throughout 2015 with coding tasters, courses on cyber security, Google Analytics and web design as well as a Global Games Jam and an event with the Guernsey College of Further Education called Games with Everything.
"We’re delighted that our efforts have been rewarded with a highly commended, particularly when you look at the calibre of entries from across the UK. The GTA and the Digital Greenhouse are committed to bridging the digital skills gap and we already have a number of courses planned and look forward to being involved again in National Coding Week."
The week in 2015, which was sponsored by JT, saw thousands of people taking part in events across the country, including coding workshops for beginners and free online taster sessions.
National Coding Week co-founder Richard Rolfe said: "I am delighted that we were able to recognise so many achievements. National Coding Week relies on volunteers to inspire others to learn digital skills, so very pleased that we’re able to recognise so many of their achievements through the awards.
"With so much emphasis on children learning to code, many adults feel that they have missed out on the digital revolution which is why it’s vital that organisations continue to support their local community by taking part in National Coding Week."
