Guernsey PA Connect (GPAC) has partnered with Guernsey Mind as the organisation's chosen charity.

GPAC committee member Vicki Malledent, who works as an executive assistant at law firm Collas Crill, was keen to join up with Guernsey Mind to highlight the importance of secretaries and PAs looking after their mental health and wellbeing.

She said: "The scope and level of responsibility of the PA and EA role continues to grow exponentially. No matter what industry you're in, when working as an important support function, expectation is extremely high which can, on occasion, have an effect on a person's mental and physical health.

"With recent and upcoming GPAC events shining a real spotlight on health and wellbeing in the workplace, it's important that we share this message within our community and help others to get an understanding of the support available in the Channel Islands."

Guernsey Mind is a local charity, affiliated to Mind in the UK, that offers training and advice about mental health and wellbeing to local employers, as well as raising awareness, encouraging the development of self-help groups in the community, and supporting the States to develop inclusive services that lead to better wellbeing for everyone.

The charity also work with the States and the community to support the modernisation of mental health services, providing awareness training to different organisations and run campaigns to encourage people to talk and seek help.

Jo Cottell, manager of the employee wellbeing service for Guernsey Mind, said: "Joining up with GPAC is a great opportunity for us to help with our mission to educate and support Guernsey employers and employees to talk about mental health. We can utilise their network to spread our message as well as providing support, advice and training around mental health and wellbeing at work."

GPAC was launched in 2015 by Donna Olliver and Caroline Renouf as an opportunity for personal and executive assistants to come together, providing a support and learning network for its 250 plus members.

GPAC will be running an event in aid of Guernsey Mind in November as well as providing talks to members to encourage open conversation on the topic of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.
