With less than a month to go to this year’s Harbour Carnival mini ducks are once again on sale, available both in town and at Beau Sejour.
Dustyn Molver from the Guernsey Round table, organisers of the Harbour Carnival said: ‘The mini duck race has become an entertaining spectacle at the Harbour Carnival and we are encouraging islanders to buy a duck for a good cause. We’ll be outside Next on 5 and 11 August, offering mini ducks for a minimum £2 donation. As in previous years, they are now available from the main concourse area of Beau Sejour up to 9 August.
Lisa Barnett from sponsors, RBC Wealth Management added: ‘I, along with a team of keen RBCers, will be manning the stall on Harbour Carnival day – 11 August – outside Next between 11am and 2pm and we hope many people will stop by and get themselves a mini duck. This year’s main beneficiary is the HUB’s Sunflower Project and with young people a particular area of community support for RBC, we are keen to sell as many ducks as possible to provide continued support for this excellent youth service.’
People are being asked to write their contact details on the reverse of the mini ducks and bring them to the end of the Crown Pier by 5.15pm on Friday 11 August. They will then be placed into a giant net, along with decorated schoolchildren’s ducks which have a celebratory theme reflecting RBC’s 10th year anniversary of sponsoring Harbour Carnival. A giant crane will hoist the net up above the mouth of the harbour, before it is opened, releasing the mini ducks into the water to begin their journey into the harbour. The duck which reaches the finishing line first will win a prize of £250.
